The business was established in 1995. This followed a year's break after fifteen years in teaching.
The way education was going, I could see no future in it for me and a life-changing decision was made.
Since starting the business, being much more in control of my own destiny, my life has improved tremendously.
From a few telephone calls, letters and cold calls, a handful of customers has developed into a substantial client base.
Educated at Wolgarston Secondary School, Penkridge (1962 - 1968) and The Grammar School, Brewood (1968 - 1970).
Worked for three years as a Trainee Management Accountant at Tower Housewares, the non-stick saucepan company, Wombourne. Completed Institute of Cost and Management Accountants - Part 1.
Had a year as a professional musician. Travelled the UK. Had a great time, but made no money.
Felt the need to settle down to a proper job! Decided that teaching would be good and for ten years it was. Trained at West Midlands College, Walsall. Studied 'Sums and Drums' (Mathematics and Music) gaining a Certificate in Education.
Taught in Great Wyrley - four years, Cheslyn Hay - four years, Essington - two years and Coven - five years.
Before leaving education, started a Master of Arts Degree in Education Management at the University of Wolverhampton, finishing in 1994.
Developed my Business Skills on a Business Enterprise Programme in 1993 run by the Staffordshire Development Associatoin.
Extended these skills with a second and more comprehensive Business Skills Training Course in 1995 run by the Zillwood Trust, after which Marlew Business Services was established.
Since then, I have completed studies with the International Association of Book Keepers, gaining my M.I.A.B. Membership in 1996.
In 1998, I completed the D32/33 Assessor/Verifier Award with Edexcel.
In 2003, I passed the City & Guilds Key Skills Level 3 Examination in Information and Communication Technology.
